The Local Area

If you're new to our area, prepare to be surprised. First and foremost, Hammersmith and Fulham is a borough of contrasts. It may be the site of regeneration and redevelopment on a breath-taking scale; it's also home to a historical heritage with 45 conservation areas covering almost half the borough. From the Grand Union Canal and Imperial Square and Gasworks to Hammersmith Odeon and the Hurlingham Club, there's something for everyone to explore and enjoy.

"YOU WILL NEVER BE TOO FAR FROM A DRINKING ESTABLISHMENT WHEN IN SHEPHERD’S BUSH AND HAMMERSMITH"

Whatever your interests, it's a locality with plenty on offer.

If you fancy a spot of retail therapy, there's a complete range within easy reach. The fashion and food paradise known as Westfield London is already on the doorstep. At the other end of the scale, you can indulge yourself in the exoticism of Shepherd's Bush Market or window-shop your way down the independent outlets scattered throughout the borough.

No need to limit your energetic output though; the local area is rich in parks (Brook Green, Cathnor Parks, Hammersmith, Holland, Ravenscourt, Wendell, and Wormholt to name a few) as well as privately owned and council-run fitness centres.

We cannot hope to do justice to our local area in the space available here; we're not even going to try. If you want to get a real sense of what it's like to live here, just drop into our office on the Goldhawk Road, the same office that we opened in 1993. We'd love to tell you about why we love the lively yet family-focused and community-centred locality that Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush is today.

"UNDERGROUND, OVERGROUND, BUS, CAR AND BICYCLE. YOU ARE NEVER TOO FAR FROM YOUR DESTINATION."

Schools in the area

There are many excellent local state and private schools in the locality which are among some of the best the capital can offer. There is stiff competition for places at the best schools within the area.

Health Care

The local area is particularly well served in this respect. It is home to both Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals.  Charing Cross provides a full range of clinical services as well as housing a day-surgery unit called the Riverside wing, the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, the West London Neuroscience Centre, and Maggie’s Cancer Centre. Fulham Centre for Health which provides urgent care services to patients as well as GP services to local residents is also based at the hospital.

Hammersmith Hospital is home to the West London Renal and Transplant Centre, two large cancer treatment centres and a specialist cardiac service with a 24/7 primary angioplasty centre. Also based at the hospital are the Clinical Imaging Centre which is the largest in Europe, and Hammersmith Centre for Health which provides urgent care services to patients as well as GP services to local residents.
